Liposuction Introduction
Liposuction is one of the most common surgical procedures performed. It may go by various names including suction lipectomy, liposculpture, suction body contouring or other variations. They all refer to the same technique whereby excess fat is removed by a blunt cannula and suction. This is usually performed in areas of the body that are resistant to removal of fatty tissue by diet and exercise. Liposuction is not intended to be an alternative to weight loss. The ideal candidate for liposuction is a patient who is healthy, and at a near ideal body weight, but has a specific area of excess fat or lipodystrophy that cannot seem to disappear despite diet and exercise.
